The archive of the Oakham estate agent Royce, was donated to the Rutland Record Society in 1983 and deposited at the Record Office for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in Wigston in 1990. This archive is a collection of documents, maps and folios, from the late nineteenth to the mid twentieth centuries, in some 200 archive boxes and comprising 2237 catalogue entries. Royce’s business activities extended well beyond the boundaries of Rutland, particularly into Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. This is an important resource for anyone studying local social history, village history or, for instance, the social consequences of the break-up of some of the big estates. All relevant catalogue entries are accessible via a word search - for a village name, for instance.
